Grow From Home/Classroom
Program Description
In 2021, we opened our first round of Grow From Home, where participants received a free selection of edible plants to grow and harvest at home. Grow From Home allowed participants easy access to the freshest herbs and the skills it takes to grow your own food by putting food gardens on the windowsills of local families. Other necessary materials and supplies to help members create their home-grow setup were also provided. Over the course of 3 months, participants received online communications with tips, advice, and training to successfully grow at home.
In 2024, we decided to pivot Grow From Home to local classrooms so youth can have the opportunity to learn how to grow their own food. We are partnering with New York Sun Works and three local WHIN classrooms to pilot the Discovering Sustainability Science Curriculum as part of Grow From Classroom. With this curriculum, students “transform into Farmer Scientists and global citizens, introducing them to sustainability science and climate education through the tool of hydroponic farming.”
How To Participate
Grow From Home is no longer running. As we are currently piloting Grow From Classroom, we are not accepting applications at this time. Be sure to check out our website and social media pages for any program updates in the future.

Our Impact
This report was vital in assessing the effect of the Grow From Home program with the participating families. We are so thankful to our volunteers, Janki Patel and Eman Faris, for their work in reaching out to participating families for feedback and compiling this report; and for Sam Checo for providing the Spanish translations (as seen on the Spanish version of the site).
