2021 marked the first year the WHIN Food Council was be able to provide financial support to community members interested in pursuing formal training or certification related to urban gardening, farming, or anything to do with growing food!

Applicants to the scholarship must already be accepted to and enrolled in a program. Some institutions that offer courses include Farm School NYC, Soul Fire Farm, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, New York Botanical Garden, and so many more. If you have any questions about whether the program you’re attending qualifies, please contact whinfoodcouncil@gmail.com with the subject line: “WHIN-FC Scholarship”. 

Priority for this scholarship will be given to Washington Heights and Inwood residents, regardless of immigration status! Awardees will be selected based on financial need. BIPOC are highly encouraged to apply! 

Scholarship Award

We will be awarding scholarships up to $500 per person on a rolling basis until funding is depleted. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the recipient's school or institution. Awardees will be selected by the intentionality of the application, however, if English is not your first language, please, note that we will not penalize you for grammar and spelling.

Scholarship Eligibility

Residing in New York City; preference will be given to Washington Heights and Inwood residents.

Be accepted to a certificate or training program related to urban gardening, farming, or anything to do with growing food.
